One of their goals was to protect their 'queen', a user with an avatar resembling character Kanna Kamui from manga Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid with a Ugandan Knuckles face. It is based off an interaction between characters in the game VRChat, where several users roleplayed as an African tribe, where clones of the character. The meme reached its peak popularity in January 2018.
The caricature of the character previously received attention through March 2017 viral video and meme knuckles sings. Ugandan Knuckles were a group of meme characters based on character Knuckles the Echidna from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, as depicted by YouTuber Gregzilla for a Sonic Lost World review.
